I Went on an Oil Painting Journey Across 24 Mini Canvases: Here's What I Uncovered

Updated: Oct 26, 2023

Join me in this blog as I share my journey with oils, delve into the lessons learned from creating a mini-series, and discuss my ongoing commitment to artistic growth, including my current enrollment in a course designed to help me better understand my work and identity as an artist. Discover how the concept of creating a series emerged as one of the pivotal ideas on this transformative path.

After a refreshing break from Drawtober, a demanding 31-day challenge, I made the decision to go on a personal artistic journey, one that I would meticulously document. Armed with a 24-piece set of mini canvases, I began my creative exploration. My fascination with the intricacies of the human body's functioning and its role in sustaining life inspired me to focus this series on human anatomy.

Beyond my artistic pursuits, I saw this endeavour as an opportunity to nurture my mental well-being and provide myself with a fulfilling activity. In the video I included below, I offer an update on my mental health and provide a step-by-step walkthrough of the creation process for the initial mini canvases. I invite you to watch and share this artistic and personal journey with me.

Engaging in this series has proven to be profoundly enriching for both my creativity and mental well-being. It has provided valuable insights into optimizing limited space (2x2 can be quite confining), and it's been a masterclass in understanding how colours can harmonize and complement each other. This endeavour has offered me the mental clarity to zero in on the aspects of oil painting and human anatomy that I find most fulfilling. While my initial goal was not directly linked to mental health, this undertaking has significantly alleviated my anxiety. Furthermore, it has played an instrumental role in expanding my audience and fostering a vibrant community for individuals interested in mental health, art therapy, and human anatomy.

In the video above, I delve into the series and discuss the remaining speed paints, including a personal favourite of mine, the spinal cord! The challenge of painting on four canvases simultaneously while ensuring they seamlessly blend into a unified piece was both thrilling and demanding.

I'm excited to share that each original piece from this series will be available for purchase in my Etsy shop, alongside a print and thematic bookmarks for each set of four canvases. You can now view the original paintings from the series on my shop.

I am deeply grateful for your support and for accompanying me on this artistic journey. Your readership and following mean the world to me. Don't forget to stay connected with me on the social platforms listed below for more exciting updates and art-related content.
