DIY Crystal Display Shelf: Materials from the Dollar Store!

Updated: Oct 26, 2023

Are you a crystal enthusiast with a growing collection but no elegant way to exhibit it? Or maybe you have other cherished items you'd love to showcase but aren't sure how to go about it. In this guide, we'll take you through the step-by-step process of crafting your very own crystal display shelf. Plus, I've included a YouTube video to complement this project. Let's dive in by exploring the necessary materials and my inspiration behind this endeavour!

So, why did I decide to embark on this DIY crystal shelf project? The truth is, it was a spur-of-the-moment decision, prompted by my newfound affection for my crystal collection. I wanted to proudly display these beauties instead of keeping them hidden away. Given the limited space in my current apartment (virtually none at all), I brainstormed the idea for a DIY display shelf.

Below, you'll find the list of materials you'll need to create your very own crystal display shelf:"

Supplies for your DIY Crystal Display Shelf:

  1. Dollar store storage units x3

  2. Dollar store super glue

  3. Acrylic paint

  4. Paint brushes

  5. Scissors

  6. Printed images

  7. Crystals to display!

Use anything you already have at home! You don't have to use fancy acrylic paint like I do; you can purchase all the necessary materials at the dollar store (perhaps without the crystals, though). I personally own some excellent brushes from the dollar store, and craft paint is also very useful.

Step 1: Superglue the display units together, then secure them with clips while they dry. Depending on the quality of the super glue you have, this will only take a minute or so.

Step 2: Use acrylic paint to create a pattern on the shelf's two sides. This process is demonstrated in my YouTube video. I painted the edges gold and selected two patterns for each side.

Step 3: Collect your printed images and tape the edges of the shelves so they are ready for paint and glue. For my shelf, I looked for some witchy stock photos that were free.

Step 4: Paint inside the shelves and paste in your chosen images!

Display your crystals as the last step! What my shelf looks like is as follows. You can see the patterns I picked out as well as, of course, all of my crystals!
