What is Expressive Arts Therapy?

Expressive Arts Therapy (ExAT) is a type of creative therapy that uses different forms of art and self-expression to explore problems people may be dealing with. It helps support personal growth and healing.  It focuses on using many kinds of art together, like drawing, music, movement, play, poetry, drama and voice. This makes it a more well-rounded way to feel better and grow. Unlike regular therapy, ExAT gives people a creative and flexible way to explore their feelings and deal with challenges in life.

Some benefits of participating in Expressive Arts Therapy are:

  • Improving creativity & self expression

  • Promoting growth, wellbeing, & healing

  • Reducing anxiety, depression, & stress

  • Activating different parts of the brain & body

  • Facilitating connection between mind & body
